About Josie

Josie James is a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Atlanta, Georgia. Raised by two classical musicians, she has been surrounded by music her entire life. Josie’s mother, a professional violinist, began teaching her violin lessons at the age of 2.

Throughout primary school Josie sang and played guitar in multiple bands, booking shows for them at local restaurants and venues. She then began playing solo shows at different festivals, events, and restaurants around Atlanta. Josie later began to experiment with Garage Band and Logic, teaching herself the software while simultaneously writing, recording, releasing her first single “Stray” to streaming platforms under the name “Josie J.” Drawing inspiration from artists like Jacob Collier and Dodie, by the end of 2022, Josie had recorded and released an 8 song album called “Modern World”, a 4 song EP “Sad Songs”, and 6 singles under the name Josie J.

For the rest of her high school career Josie continued to play violin as concertmaster in her schools orchestra, bass in the pit orchestra for school musicals and marching band, and guitar in her high school jazz band. Josie also was involved in A capella and was founder of her school’s student run chamber orchestra, writing arrangements, programing music, leading rehearsals, and conducting. Outside of school Josie continued playing shows at restaurants and bars and played fiddle, guitar, bass, and led worship at multiple churches in and around Atlanta.

Josie has written over 200 songs and now attends college at MTSU in the Commercial Songwriting Program. Josie has inserted herself in the Nashville live music scene playing solo shows, and with her band. She enjoys collaborating and making friends through shared experiences in music while continuing to write songs, string arrangements, as well as offering her skills on violin in various studio sessions and co-writing sessions and supporting other artists
